In a world of service

International President Wayne Madden set as his theme for 2012-13  “In a World of Service”.
He writes:
In a world of need, there is someone to help.  In a world of suffering, there is someone who cares.  In a world of destruction, there is someone to provide relief.  In a world of illiteracy, there is someone to teach.  And in a world of service, there is one name that stands out among others – Lions Clubs International.  That’s what we do.  That’s what we have always done.  It is our motto, and the reason we exist.

President Madden wants to stress that fact that in the world there are too many people who are illiterate or semi-literate.  He offers some suggestions.  Get involved in the RAP, Reading Action Program.
Some possible project ideas for Lions clubs:
Help an after school reading program
Read to children at local libraries or schools
Work with local literacy experts and agencies to promote reading
Read or record books on tape for the blind and visually impaired
Provide Internet connection for a school or library
What will your club do this year to promote reading?
